The personality we are born with and the experiences we go through shape our thoughts toward others. Too often, we judge people only by their actions, without considering the story behind them. What we call “evil” might simply be a reflection of pain, rejection, or unmet dreams. Think about how quickly trust can shift. Someone may be kind to you today, yet tomorrow their behavior changes. It’s easy to label them as bad or even evil, but in reality, they might just be struggling with battles you cannot see. Life’s stagnation, failures, or lack of opportunities can push people into a dark mindset—envy, frustration, or bitterness toward others.

I’ve felt it myself. Sometimes I look at my life and see little progress compared to others. Watching friends move forward while I remain stuck makes me feel rejected inside. It creates sadness, as if I’m not really living. In those moments, I could easily withdraw, distance myself from others, or even project negative feelings onto them. But deep down, I know it’s not evil—it’s just pain. This is what many people go through but never express. When individuals don’t achieve their goals, or when their personal growth feels blocked, it can transform into anger, envy, or resentment. To the outside world, they may look like “bad people,” but the truth is that they are carrying invisible burdens.

Instead of judging, we should learn to understand. People are not born evil. Everyone has reasons for their actions—some rooted in heartbreak, others in rejection, and many in struggles they never had the strength to share.

The Illusion of Evil

When we call someone “evil,” it often comes from a place of judgment. But human beings are far more complex than the labels we place on them. Personalities, experiences, and struggles shape how people act. What we see as bad behavior might actually be the result of hidden pain or unspoken battles.

How Life Shapes Our Behavior

Life doesn’t move the same way for everyone. For some, progress is fast and visible, while for others, growth feels painfully slow. This difference creates envy, rejection, and sadness. I have personally felt this—watching my friends grow while I remain stagnant in my own path. The feeling of being left behind can bring frustration, and at times, self-doubt. If left unchecked, these emotions can make a person seem cold or harsh to others.

Why People Change Suddenly

We’ve all experienced situations where someone is kind one moment and distant the next. It’s easy to call them bad or untrustworthy. But often, it’s not about us—it’s about them. That sudden change may come from pressure, insecurity, or personal disappointments. Behind every action lies a story we don’t see.

Envy, Sadness, and the Search for Meaning

When people don’t reach their goals or feel like they are stuck in life, their emotions can shift. Sadness turns into envy. Rejection turns into bitterness. And before long, those feelings spill over into relationships, making them appear “bad” in the eyes of others. Yet in truth, these feelings are deeply human.

Why Compassion Matters

Instead of labeling people as evil, we should practice compassion. No one is born with hatred in their heart. Every action comes from a reason—some rooted in heartbreak, others in failure, and many in loneliness. By choosing to understand rather than judge, we give others a chance to heal.

When Pain Turns Into Misunderstanding

Through many facts and experiences, it’s clear that when people act in ways we don’t understand, there is almost always a reason behind it. Too often, we create stories to explain their actions, painting them as cruel, cold, or even evil—when in truth, we don’t really know the battles they’ve faced. For me, this truth became clear through my own family. At some point, my mom felt distant from me, especially after my dad left. As a child, I thought she was being selfish or even cruel for prioritizing her new partner and not paying attention to me in the way I needed. I felt abandoned, shut out, and left with sadness that I carried every single day.

But as I’ve grown, I’ve started to see it differently. My mom wasn’t “evil.” She was hurt too. She had her own scars and her own heartbreaks, and perhaps she didn’t know how to process them. Instead of expressing her pain in healthy ways, she transferred it to those around her, maybe even unknowingly. It wasn’t about me; it was about her struggle to cope with her own wounds.

Learning to See Beyond the Hurt

This realization hasn’t been easy. For years, I let anger and sadness cloud my thoughts. I wanted to blame, to hold onto the story that she had wronged me. But eventually, I learned that holding onto bitterness only kept me stuck. Reading books, reflecting on human behavior, and understanding psychology helped me see that people act out of pain, not pure malice.

By accepting that, I’ve been able to deal with my emotions differently. Instead of letting resentment define me, I’ve started to practice empathy. I don’t excuse the hurt, but I try to understand the reasons behind it. That shift alone has been life-changing.

A Universal Truth

Many of us carry stories like this—stories of parents, friends, or loved ones who let us down. We may feel abandoned, rejected, or overlooked. In those moments, it’s tempting to see them as bad or even evil. But behind every action is a story, and behind every story is pain.

Evil isn’t real in the way we imagine it. What’s real are people trying, failing, hurting, and sometimes passing their pain to others. Understanding this doesn’t erase the hurt, but it opens the door to compassion, healing, and growth.
